Making a Positive Contribution

In 2001, Deputy Fire Chief LeCostel Hailey and Battalion Chief Charles Truvillion met and formed the Kern Firefighters Activities League (KFAL) to promote community involvement within the Fire Department. The primary goal was to create a mentorship program that would influence and create a positive contribution for the youth of Kern County. With the support of former Fire Chief Dan Clark and the present Fire Chief, Dennis Thompson, both LeCostel Hailey and Charles Truvillion became founders of the non-profit organization and began recruiting volunteers and soliciting donations.

Since inception, KFAL has provided many Kern County students the opportunity to become involved in its mentorship and athletic program. With the passing of the former President, LeCostel Hailey, the organization has begun to slowly reevaluate KFAL’s goals and mission but keeping the primary goal of contributing to Kern County’s youth.

KFAL has impressively grown from the original vision by welcoming support from all individuals, organizations and businesses that share the common goal of fostering good relations through community events and activities for not only youth but also the citizens of Kern County.
